All programs at the Center follow developmentally appropriate practice. Following Connecticut state regulations,
the Center’s classrooms are organized as follows:
Infants
(6 weeks to15-18 months)
The infants’ nursery is staffed by loving,
nurturing care providers who spend as much individual time with the babies as possible. Parents instruct staff on their child’s
schedule and are kept informed of their child’s day through verbal and written communications. The nursery opens onto
a large deck for fresh air and outdoor play.
Toddlers
and Twos (15-18 months to 3 years)
Children in these two groups spend much of their day involved in free
play and outdoor play, and are introduced to the structured preschool program with short, simple circle times and activities,
such as stories, songs, music, dance, and arts and crafts.
3-, 4-, and 5-year olds
Each of these age groups has its own designated classroom. The
Center’s preschool and Pre-K programs follow a daily routine and are guided by a curriculum that provides the children
with enriching, hands-on experiences. Each morning, children gather for circle time with their teacher, during which time
lessons and stories related to the curriculum are discussed, songs and dances are learned, and children have an opportunity
to share their thoughts with teachers and with each other.
Examples of curriculum topics include seasons, holidays,
nature, colors, shapes, numbers, letters, nursery rhymes, families, nutrition, and animals. Detailed information on
the curriculum is available upon request.
Kindergarten children
Before and after school
